Guide to Gatwick Airport
Gatwick Airport, London
Regarded as London's second international airport, Gatwick Airport is located 29 miles outside the centre of the capital in West Sussex. The airport is the base for many
international airlines who operate flights out of the airport to every corner of the globe.
The airport has two major terminals, the North Terminal and the South Terminal. The North Terminal handles many of the airport's international flights from the likes of British Airways, Air France and Delta Airlines. The South Terminal also handles international flights but to the US courtesy of operators such as US Air and Virgin. All of the airport's domestic and charter flights are also handled out of the South Terminal.
Gatwick Airport in West Sussex and with its North and South Terminals is second only to Heathrow in terms of passenger numbers, as Britains number 2 airport. More and more people are chosing to fly from Gatwick, as transport options have improved and the airport has been renovated. Gatwick is now a modern and exciting airport to fly from, with a range of shops and dining choices for travellers.
In the UK, Gatwick Airport is the main base for budget airline EasyJet. The low cost carrier has almost all of its international flights operating out of Gatwick in and around London. As the second largest airport in the UK, Gatwick is responsible for handling over 34 million passengers each year, catering to over 200 worldwide destinations. The airport is especially busy during the holiday season.
As the airport is the size of a small town, with over 29,000 people working there, it is one of the biggest employers in the country. The airport also has state of the art facilities for passengers, including bars, restaurants, a bureau de change and baby changing rooms.
Like Heathrow, Gatwick's location outside London makes it easily accessible via road and rail. Major bus operators also run shuttle buses that go to and from the airport.
