Heathrow Airport is the UK's largest and busiest airport handling flights that go to every corner of the globe. Situated just outside London, the airport is used by nearly 70 million people each year who fly to one of 180 destinations. With over 90 airlines operating out of
the airport's five terminals, Heathrow airport London is one of the most advanced airports in the world, and is one of the planet's major transport and business hubs.
As well as transporting people around the world, it is also responsible for handling close to 1.5 million tonnes of cargo each year. Despite the vast number of flights that go in and out of the country on the airport's two main runways, plans to construct a third runaway has met serious resistance due to environmental concerns.
The airport's state of the art facilities for its passengers include travel accessory shops, restaurants, and bars. There is even a beauty salon in the airport's latest terminal, Terminal 5. Heathrow also has exclusive lounges for first class travellers as well as arcades, wireless internet and the one thing all holidaymakers need is a a bureau de change.
Due to Heathrow's importance and popularity, most of the country's transport links have direct access to the airport. It is the only airport in the UK, for example, to have its own Underground stop, which is found on the Piccadilly Line. Bus services also go straight go Heathrow Airport with both National Express, the Heathrow Express and a dot2 shuttle bus service offering trips to and from the airport. For travellers getting to the airport by car, the airport's prime location is easily accessible from junction 4 of the M4 and junctions 14 and 15 of the M25.
